BETWEEN FRIENDS
In the silence that falls
suddenly
when we’re talking
sometimes an angel passes,
sometimes a god passes
and sometimes
it’s a tyrant,
the owner of the house,
the lord within.
He never stops prowling
round our home.
One day
he’ll take over the door
and he’ll be the only visitor.
He won’t let anyone in or out.
He’ll settle with the keys
where we can’t see him.
