EYES
There are eyes so full of dreams
That they show us scenes of yore;
Eyes whose pensive glances pour
Light of other skies and streams;
Eyes of grief that nourish themes
Dimly seen, as from the shore
Halcyon wings that wander o'er
Broken waves and clouded gleams.
Eyes there be whose sorrows fair
Teach oblivion from the skies
To the hearts whose cross is there;
Eyes that sweet old gladness prize,
Whose ethereal cloudings bear
Stars from a lost Paradise.
