RIMA XLVII

I have delved into the deep chasms
            of earth and heaven;
I have probed their depths, with my eyes
            or with my mind.

But alas!, when I reached the abyss of a heart
            and I leaned down to examine it,
my soul and my eyes became disturbed:
            it was so deep and so black!
